On November 10, 2009, the longest running children’s television show will be 40 years old. You can read more about it HERE. The fictional neighborhood characters have been engaging and teaching children most of my life. I was 5 years old when Sesame Street hit our black and white, rabbit-eared television for the first time.
Here are 10 lessons it took me years to understand:
I enjoyed meeting some of the people that I admire online this week at Cultivate Conference in Chicago. Names that appear bigger than life to me, because I enjoy their blogs and work so much, were up close and personal. I shook the hands of people like, Jon Acuff, Kem Meyer, Scott McClellan, Kent Shaffer, Tony Steward and Rhett Smith.
Here is a principle I have learned in years of ministry and life experience.
Everything is relative to the context in which you live.
I love Southwest’s magazine. I always find interesting articles to kill time during flights. This month was no exception. I am glad that let you bring these magazines home. (They do, don’t they?)
I keep a notepad handy to write down thoughts and questions I have about life. Sometimes they become Twitters…sometimes they get expanded and made into blog posts…and sometimes they sit in my notepad waiting for attention. Here’s a collection of the latter.
This is a powerful video in terms of the impact of social media in our society. Thanks to my friend Scott Williams for sharing it with me first.
I heard today that Wal Mart is getting rid of paper paychecks. Instead employees will receive a debit card as payment, if they refuse direct deposit. You can read more about it HERE.
On July 5th I sprained my ankle. Since then I have had a hard time running, but perhaps worse it seems it is even more common for me now to twist the ankle again. A doctor told me it was because I had damaged my proprioceptor, which means I have a harder time maintaining balance and posture, so I almost have to retrain myself to run. In the meantime I miss the exercise I received from running, which is affecting my mood, my energy level and my general attitude.
As an avid user of social media in my work, people seem to enjoy sending me negative articles on the rise of social networking and its negative impact on our culture.
