By September 3, 2015April 13th, 2019Call to Ministry, Church, Encouragement, Leadership

This is part three of a five part interview with Dr. John David Laida. Brother Laida, as we called him. At the time of this filming, he was a 92 year old pastor  (about to turn 93), who was at the time still doing interim pastorate positions in area churches and preaching every Sunday.

If you missed the first two segments, click HERE and HERE.

In this segment you’ll hear Bro. Laida address:

  • The way pastoring has changed
  • Protecting family in ministry
  • Being active in the community
  • Worship styles and adapting to culture

Two more segments of this interview and they’re good! Stay tuned.

Good morning Ron, I am enjoying this interview. It does take me back to visiting First Baptist with relatives, bowling, racquetball and skating at the Activities Building on Saturday mornings back in the early 70s! As a young child, I thought that was so cool that a church had those fun things...just like many today love the music at Grace. It is as Brother Laida is saying, some activities and music might not reach one particular person, but might reach far to someone else....spreading the message of the Kingdom!

Awesome interview...love the wisdom of Brother Laida.

Thanks for letting me know you're following along.
How I am enjoying these interviews with Dr. Laida! He served as our interim pastor on two separate occasions at First Baptist, Owensboro, KY. We love him here, and it is absolutely wonderful to see that he is still touching the lives of those around him. Thank you for sharing!

That's awesome. I know he served many churches as interim and was popular wherever he went. Love the man.
Each day makes me love him more and respect what a wise pastor he is

Yes, I'm learning all I can!
Ron, thanks for posting this interview. It's fascinating to hear Dr. Laida talk about the increased challenges of ministry in today's culture. I know that ministry has never been a cake walk, but many of us really do feel the tugs in many different directions.

HE SUCCEEDED! This is first hand. He was the best Daddy growing up anyone could have ever hoped for. He never told us how to think or live, he did it by example. He is the most wonderful Dad and person in the whole world, except for my Momma. They are incredible and I thank the Lord every day multiple time that I have them. Anything good about me comes from them. Which I know comes from our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you Ron for doing this!!! God Bless you in your new journeys.

Thanks for commenting and giving a personal vouch for what we all see in them. The greatest compliment to any people comes from their children.
Ron, thank you so much for sharing these clips. I have greatly enjoyed listening/watching them. I especially appreciated his example of maturity at the end of this particular one as he talked about worship style and accepting today's songs/style even though it is different. It was such a joy to my heart to see/hear what he had to say. If only others would take on this example of maturity, focus on Christ, and attitude of deference, so many arguments about worship would cease.

I agree. I'm bringing him in to speak to our seniors in a couple months. He can say things others can't.
