Where do you get your best ideas?

I love ideas, so I’m always trying to create new ones.

Here’s where some of my best ideas come from:

Brainstorming with others – I love to surround myself with creative thinkers…they expand my thinking.

Running – When I run, my mind races quickly…much faster than I actually run.

Outdoors – When I take a walk along the beach, or sit on a hillside watching a sunset, or staring at the stars…I think big thoughts!

Shower – I remember reading research that said there was something scientific about this…but either way, when I take a shower, I think!

Random – I am a random idea guy, so much so that I must, however, keep something handy where I can take notes at any given time.

So where do your best ideas come from?

  • Those are some great sources. I find a lot of ideas come as I read and watch what others have done, especially in other ministry contexts. Then I will take those, write them down (I have pages of scribbled notes and idea that don't always get developed), and adapt them to my context. Sometimes they are refined in conversations with others, or in the shower.

  • Yeah, mine are mostly the same as yours. Actually working on a project for that ideas in the shower idea… will land on cleanthoughts.com – prototype launching later in the year (I hope).

Let's do it! I think there's a great opportunity for capturing ideas on the go…I use lots of apps, but have decided not to take my iPhone in the shower… 🙂

Love your thoughts Ron! I get my ideas from those same things as well as from the Bible, books I'm reading, while i'm sitting in a class of 3rd graders helping them with assignments, laying in bed trying to fall asleep, reading other blogs, etc. You can get ideas from just about anywhere.

  • As I travel a lot, my best ideas spring during travel. I find my brain is creative when I am in travel.

That is another place I discover ideas. I always take lots to write on when I get away. I guess it's because my mind is clearer from distractions.

Me too…I keep my Evernote hopping. Thanks Michael. You are doing good stuff on your blog.

I do my best thinking on my prayer walks or sitting in my yard looking up at the sky and asking the Lord to give me new ideas.I also get new ideas as life happens to me. I take what is happening at the time and apply it towards my posts. Love your posts Ron, keep up the awesome work!

Shower. Without a doubt. I keep telling my wife I'm gonna put a white board in there. Besides, when I run I'm too focused on survival to think about anything.

When I am outside and alone, or at least just with my dog is the best place, the second best is the shower. Im not sure why that happens? Third communicating with others. The conversation always starts my brain.

Alone..that's key. And walking my dog is always a good time. That's why I have Evernote on my phone

  • All around man. I'm always jotting stuff down on paper or putting them into notes on my phone. Most of my ideas come from everyday-normal stuff. Actually, just kinda discussed this.

  • Ron, I get mine when I read.

Charles, I'm surprised I didn't put that one…because I certainly do too. I guess it's because the last year was a hard one for me as far as reading is concerned. I missed it thought, so thanks for the encouragement and reminder!
