You Are Never Too Old To Learn Something New

By March 10, 2010August 1st, 2011Change, Leadership

One of my pet peeves as a leader has been for people to refuse to try something new or fail to follow through on a project; giving up before it’s completed, because they think they do not feel they know how to do the task. I encounter far too many people that want responsibility or leadership assignments, but they are not willing to invest the time and energy it takes to learn the requirements of the task.

Here’s my bottom line on the subject:

“I don’t know how” is not a good enough excuse…

Be willing to learn something new…or get a new response…

Unless you are a dog, you can learn some new tricks…

Regardless of your age…income…background…

What’s something new you need to or want to learn how to do?

I would love to be fluent in another language. I've envied my friends in Europe that are multi-lingual.
Actually I am in the middle of a crash course on the acoustic guitar. Quit a class in college and regret it, but one must have persistence for the things they desire to learn.

That's awesome! Go for it! I have wanted to play and instrument too...but not enough to learn one. I hope you do!
I would love to learn to play the guitar!

I would love to play the guitar
Back in 2002, after spending over 20 years as a stay-at-home mom, I was offered a teaching job for which I was not qualified. So, I went back to school at the age of 51 and earned my masters. Now, I have the privilege of learning a lot from my seniors as they create senior projects on topics they are interested in. Learning is a great thing!

Open the can! Start one at a time and mark them off or see how some of them work together. I love it! Thanks!

The banjo. I took the standard 3 or 4 years of piano as a kid, played various drums, tymps, and bells through high school concert bands, played drums in a rock and country/gospel band, also a little guitar and now I pretend to be a bass player. (Yep, I'm a jack of many instruments, master of none).

I'd love to learn how to play the banjo, tho.
