I have a special folder…
It’s where I keep the notes of encouragement…
The emails you get that are extremely positive…
The cards that came in the mail…
The ones that say you’ve done something right…
The ones that say you know what you are doing…
The ones that say you made a difference in someone’s life…
We don’t get many of them…it may be months before we get another…
But I save them…in a special place…
When I’m having a bad day….I go to this folder…
I read them…
I read them again…
I remind myself that I have the potential to do great things…
Even on days when it seems otherwise…
Do you need an “encouragement folder”?

I have an electronic folder called “Encouragement Scriptures” that I look at often, but I do keep cards from time to time. I also have Bob Russell’s “9 rules for lasting in the ministry” framed and setting in my desk as a reminder of why I do what I do.
Love this
Have had one for over 20 years -simply brilliant.
It's neat to read the ones from 20 years ago too.
Yes, I need one such folder. The problem is having enough humility to go to it when I need it.
I find the days I need this most that somehow I'm “humbled” enough to go there.
I've been doing this for about 8 years, since becoming a senior pastor. I encourage our staff and congregation to have one as well.
Good leadership
I have one, and read it today also. You have to start it so you have it when you need it.
Absolutely.
I love this idea of actually creating a hard copy of it. I have one specific, heartfelt "Thank You" on my Stickies on my desktop, but think I really will try creating a folder of sorts for printed out versions to go back to!
Yea, some things are too good for the electronic world.
Great idea. I can't count how many times I could've used one of the last few years since planting a church in an area of double-digit unemployment and one of the highest overdose rates in the state. Thanks so much for the post.
Praying for you my pastor friend.
I have an e-mail folder called "Down Day Reading." Even just knowing it's there helps.
I love the intentionality of people in this area
Love it. I have one I call "Warm Fuzzies"
That's awesome!
Ron,
your "Encouragement Folder" is more organized than mine:)
Your spot on. Having a folder for encouraging notes, letters, cards, emails, is great way to thankful for yoru calling and great way to be encouraged in seasons discouragement!
Pastor Derwin
Thanks Derwin.
Ron, I like this idea. I think that even if we are not leaders in sense of Pastors or something like that we can take this idea and use it. I think I need to start one of these. Thank you for the idea.
Yes, absolutely. We also do this as a family. We keep cards and notes people send us in a special place.
I was given this piece of advice years ago and I have done followed through with it and my it has been a great help on many discouraging days.
Thanks for the confirmation!
Yup! I name this folder as "Compliment Folder" in my email. I store all my positive emails, genuine praises, etc, in this folder. And, I access this whenever I feel like rejuvenating
Another good name for this.
I have one. I call it it my "Makes It all Worthwhile" folder. I visit it from time to time.
I like that name!
