I don’t know if I buy into the research of this report, especially in my church where we seem to have an abundance of exercise and health conscious people. But, according to this ABC News report…
Well, just watch for yourself… (After the short advertisement)
Did you watch it? What do you think? Agree or disagree? Is the report offensive to you?
Also, do you think the pastor’s health or lifestyle influences the church in this area? Does the style of church play into this?
Just curious….

It's a mixed bag at our church too. But we have great examples on our staff. (Our senior pastor is Craig Groeschel. You should SEE the guns on that guy!)
Craig's a stud for sure.
Not sure I buy this either. Years ago, I would say I saw this as true. But nowadays, I see so many churches with gyms and fitness programs. In my church we have a group of women that train and run full marathons a couple times a year. And at our church wide dinners we have begun offering grilled alternatives to get away from all of the fried foods.
Our church too Edward.
I do not see any such pattern among church goers in my country Ron! It's a mixed group here. Some are obese while some are so lean.
Thanks Uma
I agree especially in predominately black churches. I think the problem lies in what is considered acceptable fellowshipping activities. In the US, we are the church of don'ts – don't smoke, don't drink, don't curse, don't listen to carnal music, don't go see certain types of movies, don't dress a certain way… but's ok to eat. When I've attended predominately black churches, food was the center of every fellowshipping activity. Some of my favorite gospel singers are dangerously obese. Southern Comfort food is part of our culture and part of our church experience. Gluttony is rarely preached about anymore. If it is, it's an issue and not a sin.
Thanks Laurinda. I think we are probably more guilty of this sin in the south also…we are highly geared towards fatty foods.
