Popular Republicans are organizing town hall type meetings around the nation to have “conversations with America” in an attempt to regain support they have lost in the last few years. Read that story HERE.
It is interesting to watch Republicans organize attempts to reclaim their party. As one who has usually voted and supported conservative candidates, I generally agree with the philosophies of government held by the leading Republicans. In recent years, however, I have been less enthusiastic about parties in general, not completely feeling that either major party completely represents my values.
I’m wondering about the life of the major political parties in general. I think we will have them as long as we have differences of opinion. I wonder though if the traditional thought of Republicans as conservatives and Democrats as liberals will continue.
I’m curious.
- Are you as dedicated to a political party as you once were?
- Has your view of either major party changed in recent years?
- Do you think the current party structure will continue?
- Does either party represent your values completely?
- Could a third party, if well organized, appeal to a broader group of people and become a major party?
- Do you care?
my short answers to your questions…..
* Are you as dedicated to a political party as you once were?
No. More dedicated to principles, but less dedicated to a political party.
* Has your view of either major party changed in recent years?
Yes, dramatically. Both parties.
* Do you think the current party structure will continue?
Yes.
* Does either party represent your values completely?
No. But one is closer than the other.
* Could a third party, if well organized, appeal to a broader group of people and become a major party?
I used to not think so. But social technologies are changing the rules of the political game. Things could get very interesting as the social web continues to develop.
* Do you care?
Yes, very much so.
