Scripture Memorization, Week 6

By February 5, 2011Encouragement

We continue our Scripture Memorization each week in 2011.  I hope you are hiding God’s Word in your heart.  See the related posts for this post if you need to catch up with any of the previous posts.

This week’s memory verse has gotten me through some hard weeks…at least the truth of it has…

How are you living out this command of God?

Doing good on the memorization challenge. I'm sure people have mentioned this method already… but for me, I have it set up in Google calendar for a reminder to pop up once a day with the verse and text. It comes up on my phone. And it works for me! Thanks for your leadership, Ron.

Morning Ron- Thanks for the encouragement to memorize God's Word- it is so much more fun to do it in a group (even if we are spread throughout the States) than alone. I do have a couple of questions that I am curious about. : ) Are you picking verses that you haven't memorized before- I remember your original post and how you wanted to grow in your memorization too. And my second question is not so much a question but a reflection- how many people can say all 6 verses now from memory. Memorizing the one verse for the one week is no problem for me- retaining what I memorized and building on it consistently- well that is another story… Can you say right now all verses from memory from the beginning of the year? I am afraid I can't- but I will be working on that. Anyways, thanks for such an awesome blog you do! I am always encouraged and challenged when I read it. Blessings!!

Thanks for participating. Great question. Probably a longer explanation. I read the Bible through in a year (every other year) for almost 20 years. In that reading, and my normal readings, there were many verses that spoke greatly to me, but weren't necessarily memory verses. At the same time, for several years, I had another discipline of memorizing verses of Scripture. These are in the first group, but not the second. Make sense? They are verses I'm very familiar with, have studied, perhaps even written about on my devotional site, but not necessarily committed to memory. That's my plan this year…and yes, I could recite the ones so far. Hope that helps. Thanks for reading my blog.
