A Quick Word of Advice when Seeking Wisdom

By June 25, 2011Encouragement

Don’t seek it only from people just like you

Look for people…

  • Who are different…
  • Who have different experiences..
  • Who are a little further down the road…

Don’t limit yourself to learning from people like you…

Who are you learning from who isn’t like you?

  • From who are not like me, I learn to see things from a different perspective altogether and better prepare myself for any eventuality.

Agree totally. I've always tried to find people in my life who are smarter than I on a particular subject or have experience. I start, many times, from a position that I'm "stupid" on a particular topic and let these relationships or seminars or whatever pour knowledge into my vessel. I end up, usually, being pretty "smart' in the end. Not that every bit of advice is useful nor would I agree with it, but it all feeds into what ends up in the final product.

I learn quite a bit from my boss who is very different me. He will ask me what I am doing about something. I'll give him an answer. He'll argue with me 20 to 30 minutes about my answer. When I finally give him the reasoning he was looking for, he will tell me he agreed with me the entire time. He just wanted me to learn how to make decisions the right way, know why I was making them, and be able to share why.

I experienced this, this past week Ron. I'm going through something that I don't wish on anyone. I've talked with a lot of other believers and they gave me encouragement, prayer, and the words I wanted to hear.

But, the other day, I was talking with a co-worker who isn't a believer and has been through the same ordeal. He told me what I had to listen to. The tough truth.
