How to Have a Worry-Free Year

By January 2, 2010December 30th, 2011Devotional, Encouragement, Faith, Life Plan

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…” Matthew 6:25

Do you want to live with less worries in the New Year?

None of us probably enjoys worrying, yet even Jesus must have recognized our tendency to worry, because He made it a point to challenge us not to worry.   The simple truth is that living worry-free is very simple in theory, but it’s the practice of doing what we know to do that is hard for us.  Still, in spite of the difficulty, are you up for a challenge?  Let me encourage you to follow these steps to a worry-free 2010.

Ask yourself two questions:

What can I control?

What can I not control?

Then:

Work to change that you can change.  (For more help with this, click HERE)

And…

Let go of those things you cannot change.

Obviously it is easier to write than to practice, but let’s strive more this year to live more worry-free lives as we trust God more.  Let’s even be bold enough to ask God to do the impossible in our life.

What worry do you need most to let go of this year?

Wow, Ron I was just talking to a good friend of mine about how my relationship with God has grown so much the last few months, that I have been able to apply what I been learning and reading from the bible to my life. Also, my attitude has become a lot better too, And that the only thing I need to work on is not worry so much about things I cant really changes. After, reading this it just remind me that most of the things I do worry about our things that the people they are involved are the one that can change them not me and that I have done my part. Thanks for sharing again and for the reminder,

I have found asking God for knowledge, understanding, and wisdom is one way to handle worry and fear. Rather than not dealing with my worries (i.e., letting them go), I do much better working through them with God.

Patricia, that's a great suggestion. I think we must deal with our worries. The key is finding the way that works to keep your mind focussed on truth. Thanks for your good comments.

I need a lot of help in this area! Reviewed all of the related Biblical verses. Other than prayer, what other helpful ideas might me out there for me to learn to let go!!!!!!!!!?

There was a study done on the things we worry about. It found that only 8% of the things we worry about are actual, legitimate concerns. The rest are things from the past, things out of our control, or things which are so minor they have no real impact on us. What would it be like to reduce the amount you worry by 92%?

Jesus told us to reduce worry by concentrating on today; by handling one day at a time. In Matt 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself…each day has enough trouble of its own.” I think the key is replacing lies or unknowns with truth. It is a habit that is formed similar to the habit of worry. Instead of concentrating on the worry, we concentrate on truth. That could be through prayer or reading God's Word. Every time a negative thought/worry comes in our mind, we immediately start to replace it with a known truth from Scripture, such as "I will never leave you nor forsake you" or like David said, "When I am afraid, I will trust in you."
